ΣΙΓΉ ▪ SIYÍ . . Na, was sagt ihr?

. Happy Saturday! Felt robust enough to change my clothes and take a baby wipe bath, so I got that goin' for me. 😊 . I've been thinking back to when I started using Instagram in earnest—when I moved on from capturing individual moments and started telling a story. . I haven't said it here, but my Insta has a mission statement. Not a corporate one with buzzwords and Conjoined Triangles of Success, just a job to do. A simple job that fits in six words: . "This is what this is like." . I'm here to tell my story—to demystify the process of transition for others, and to clarify my thoughts for myself. . I started documenting my gender journey in a private journal, but something about writing *here*, where someone might see, helps me write better. Being around people who post every day helps me write more often. Reading others' insights helps me consider new angles. Having a word limit forces me to be clear. . I'm grateful for the many writers on here—from those who fit a gleaming insight into just a few words, to those who write long-form pieces that tackle an issue in depth. I'm also grateful for people who start an idea, whether a serious discussion or a quick laugh, and then hold out the baton for others to run with. . Thank you all for being here. ❤️ . ❃ . #writersofinstagram #transwomenofinstagram #transwriters #whyiinsta #whyimhere #whyimoninstagram #whyiwrite #conjoinedtrianglesofsuccess #thisiswhattranslookslike

I write whenever I can. If I'm not in the right headspace to work on The Arbitratus Trilogy, I work on short fiction usually. I always write fanfic to keep the wheels greased if I'm really stuck. Sometimes I like to write what I call fanfiction for our characters, where I imagine them in the future, or the past, or in some situation that has nothing to do with the story. Just to know them better, I guess. I prefer to write at my desktop in my office at home. I have many little talismans of sorts that I've collected, from a model of Serenity, to an eyeball in a jar. I write from deep places it's sometimes hard to go, hard to come back from. These help. And I'm a pantser. The characters are the boss of me. And they recognize no safety word. #authorschallenge2019 #authorschallenge2019plus #authorschallenge #authorschallengeplus #writingprocess #mywritingprocess #pantser #fanfiction #fanfic #hemmingwayquotes #hemmingway #writer #writing #writingcommunity #writerproblems #writers #writersofinstagram #writerslife #alwayskeepwriting #justkeepwriting #whyiwrite #dailywriting #writers #writingaseries #fantasywriter #paranormalwriter

I was scheduled to do an interview for my children’s book, Aaron and Me: Our Journey on the Spectrum and the interviewer asked if she could ask Aaron some questions as well. I told her I would ask him and if he said yes, he would need the questions ahead of time so he could prepare for the interview. He said yes, but we all forgot about his questions! Aaron was a trooper though. He answered his questions and seemed comfortable with the process overall. “How can you tell? I’m just one of the out of focus guys.” ... My writing is not meant to be a personal diary or an inventory of woes, instead I want to share who I am and what I have learned from my experiences because that is the only way I know how to speak my identity into being. For me, every time I put pen to paper, or finger to keyboard, I am letting slip pieces of my identity and experience. Not only in my poetry, personal narratives, and prose, but in my critical essays, my twitter jokes, and the notes I write in classrooms. I write for myself, for that shy girl who spent so much time alone so that others can see her. To know she was valuable. I write for all the little shy girls and boys, all the quiet kids who didn’t see themselves in books and on tv. I write to validate who I am and through that I hope to validate someone else’s existence or at least by showing them who I am on paper they might have the courage to make themselves known. My writing is the work of being human: time, effort, reflection, analysis, and appreciation. ... #writersofinstagram #writersofig #whyiwrite #womenwhowrite #womenwriters #chicanawriter #queerwriters #writerstatement

This is my new gorgeous painting, ‘Colder’, from amazing local abstract artist @lottelane (it's a Christmas present from my mum!) 😍 I bought this painting because it spoke to me. When I saw it, I saw the mines of Moria. * Back in 2001, when I first saw The Fellowship Of The Ring at the cinema, I was stuck. I didn’t know what I wanted to write. I’d been staring at blank documents for months. * I also need to tell you that when I watch films, my mind does NOT shut up. Ooh, is that going to happen next? I like him. Ooh, I like her. What a great line. Oh, I wouldn’t have made that decision. * So, when the fellowship walked into Moria and Gandalf lit the place up with his staff, my mind was speechless and completely silent. I was blown away by the magnitude. I was blown away by the lore and the possibilities. * I’ve been writing fantasy ever since. And within seconds of seeing this painting on Lotte Lane’s account, I saw the mines of Moria, my mind went speechless and my heart hit buy 💕

it rained today, and it made me so happy. 🥰 you see, we don’t get a whole lot of that out here, and i miss it. i love the way the grey sky sits heavy and closer to the earth, like you could reach up and squeeze the rain right out of the thick clouds. it reminds me of home, and of so many of my favorite memories... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ like running through the streets during a summer downpour with my cousins, getting absolutely drenched and then jumping into the pool fully clothed laughing until our cheeks hurt ( @abails1 + @jessievitrano i’d still do this with you guys, and i love that 😘 ) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ or hiking through the backcountry of lombok with my new husband, while big, fat, aggressive rain drops plummeted onto us, soaking us from head to toe, our feet squishing against our soaked socks with every step and picking up finley as a puppy, watching him experience rain for the first time, tilting his little head back trying to catch the drops in his mouth (he still does this, and it still bursts my heart every. time.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ and the day a sudden rain delighted my heavilyyyyy stoned senses while i danced in the desert sand, the cool drops piercing through the hot air, sending steam rising off the ground. i love the rain, the way it smells, the way in sounds, the way it makes me feel, and remember. 🧡 thanks mother natch, i didn’t realize how much i needed it. 🙏🏼🌧

Why do I write? This is something I had never answered...until Cyber Monday. That’s when I splurged on @michaelhyatt’s “Get Published” course. (Yes, I’m already a published author, but that doesn’t mean my wheels haven’t been spinning in the mud for a while now.) ⠀ ⠀ In Michael’s first session, he asks, “Why do you want to write?” Here are a few reasons why I write, in no particular order:⠀ ⠀ 1) I write because doing so makes me dig deep in God’s Word like nothing else (and I profit more than anyone!).⠀ ⠀ 2) I write in order to obey Scripture’s command to use my gifts of teaching and exhortation to serve the people of God (Romans 12:6). Thanks for continually beating this drum, @eringraffiti!⠀ ⠀ 3) I write with the hopes of helping my talented husband, @tmarsteller with the financial burden he shoulders as the sole provider for our family. My most recent contracting project for @reviveourhearts enabled me to replace the impenetrable fortress of our broken garage door (which I’m standing in front of in this picture). ⠀ 4) I write to leave a legacy. I am aware my days on earth are limited. If my words (which point to God’s enduring words) stick around longer than me, that’s a win (1 Peter 1:24-25).⠀ ...⠀ Why do you write, or do that thing you do? And if you’re only dreaming of doing it, then why do you *want* to write, or carve, or start that business? As Michael Hyatt shares, you need to know your “why” if you’re going to succeed. ⠀ ///⠀ For seven more reasons why I write — plus an offer of my services—link in profile. ⠀ •••⠀ #writing #whyiwrite #writer #freelancer #reviveourhearts #michaelhyatt #getpublished #getthecourse #wortheverypenny #knowyourwhy

✍🏻 Am I wasting my freedom to write? ✍🏻 Of the several convictions I felt reading "The Storyteller" by Jodi Picoult, that is the one I'm mulling the most right now. • In the barracks of Auschwitz, Mika used whatever paper surface she could find to write her novel. Being in possession of paper and pen was a serious infraction that could lead to torture or death. Still, she wrote. In the midst of her nightmare, she wrote. • She wrote because it kept her mind alive amid bodily deprivation. She wrote because it helped the other prisoners temporarily escape their reality. She wrote because she was able to process what she was enduring, to attempt to make sense of how evil and good can exist in the same human soul. • She wrote, quite simply, because she was a writer. And that’s how writers live. Writers write with every breath they take. They stop writing only when they stop breathing. • Mika did not have freedom to write, yet she wrote. • She would have given anything to write in peace, with actual paper, and a reasonable chance at publishing her work. All of that was stripped away from her, and she still found a way to write. • She wrote so that her story might live and thrive, even if she didn’t. Stories outlive their writers, Mika says, and that’s exactly the aim of writing. • I want to use my freedom to tell the stories I have been given. Because I can’t shake the notion these stories were never meant to die with me. After reading “The Storyteller,” how can I believe anything else? • Taken from my latest blog post (link in bio). . . . . . . . . . . . . #jodipicoult #jodipicoultbooks #thestoryteller #bookrecommendation #bookrecommend #bookstagram #readersofinstagram #writing #writer #writersofinstagram #writersonig #writerlife #author #authorsofinstagram #authorlife #whyiwrite #writerslife #writemore #writemotivation

A client who is currently wrestling with rewrites asked me today why I write. • Because I love writing. • Is it always easy? No. Fun? No. Can it be frustrating? Yes. In fact, I've got a few characters in Book Seven that I could gladly strangle right now. • But overall, do I find it easy and fun? Yes, or I wouldn't do it. Writing, for me, is immensely thrilling and rewarding. • Four years ago, when the story and characters for The Rose of Caledon started forming in my head, I battled internally for seven months, refusing to start writing it down. • Why? Because I hadn't written much in years. Because I was a mom. Because I was busy with other things. And I knew that if I started, the writing would consume me. Devour hours. Take over my brain. • But the story won. And the writing consumed me. Devoured hours. Took over my brain. Just like it had in the past. • And I love it. • I wouldn't give up writing. Even if no one read my books (and I'm very grateful that they do!) I would keep on writing, because for me, it's an outlet and a source of joy. Stories build up inside me and they have to come out. • Why do you write? • www.dragonsfireseries.com

This is my busy season and always has been. Ice hockey has been a part of my life since I was 5. Playing, coaching, watching. Between that and the neverending quest for capitalism, my side projects always end up taking a backseat. And don't get me started on my meditations. #Journaling & gaming have become a luxury in my third decade upon this planet. ⚓🏒 But every now and then, I manage to find a few minutes to write something without the intent of having an audience. It's not much, but I'm #grateful for the chance to do so. It's the only way to stay above the algorithms. For I refuse to let them control me and my art. I refuse to let them manipulate my #mindfulness and turn me into what they want me to be. I am what I am. #sorryimnotsorry 😘
