HOW TO GAIN MUSCLE by @apfau - The actual process to build muscle is not overly complicated. The most difficult part is being patient and accepting the fact that it takes time. - First, ditch the body part splits. I’ve discussed this in a ton of posts so I’m not going to go into much detail in this post but training body parts more often as a natural lifter will yield better results. - Second, commit yourself to staying in a caloric surplus for a minimum of 6 months. Like I said, gaining muscle takes time and if you alternate between bulking and cutting too often you will really be spinning your wheels. I was very guilty of this. At the first sign of some fat gain I wanted to cut. Building muscle requires a caloric surplus and a caloric surplus will yield some fat gain. Accept this, suck it up, and keep your surplus at around 300 calories to keep that fat gain to an absolute minimum. - Third, there are supplements that can help you but they will only be useful if you’re doing the “big three” correctly (training, diet, recovery). Made with almond flour, coconut sugar and high in protein 👌 so perfect for meal prep, just bake a loaf and pack a slice to take with you for when you need a healthy boost! Ingredients ⭐1 scoop Free Soul chocolate protein ⭐1 cup almond flour ⭐2/3 cup prepped choc shake ⭐1 1/2cup chocolate chips ⭐1/2 cup coconut oil ⭐2/3 cup coconut sugar ⭐2 eggs ⭐1/2 tsp vanilla extract ⭐Method Mix the almond flour and Free Soul protein powder together. My face when I see yet another “fat burn workout for Christmas”. What makes it fat burning? Why should people be burning fat at this time of year? 🤔 - Personally, your training should look pretty similar year round whether the goal is muscle building or fat loss. Just because you’ve done a tri-set of stiff leg deadlift, conventional deadlift and frog pumps doesn’t mean you’re some sort of calorie burning furnace. Yes, you’ll likely accumulate more volume but at the sacrifice of form, load on the bar, and intensity which are all fundamental in building muscle 🔑 - Having more muscle is what allows us to need more calories to maintain our body weight, now there’s something to work towards. Sorry if it’s coming across blunt, but all these daft workouts that are going to mean you can eat all the mince pies are too good to be true 😴 - Instead, maybe adjust your split to allow for the number of days you can get in the gym over the festive period whether this is Upper/Lower x 2 each or Full Body for 2-3 times. HOW TO BUILD MUSCLE MASS by @dancudes⁣ -⁣ Building muscle mass is hard. It is simplistic in the sense that you simply just got to train hard with progressive overload and a small caloric surplus, but it is a grind. Right now, I am in more of a skill building phase, but I'm about a month off a mass building phase where I went from 155lbs to 170lbs in 9 months. To build muscle mass, you need to make sure you're doing the right things that I have covered on this page multiple times, but also some things that people don't always remember. For example, I see people doing 10 different exercises for a single muscle in a single workout because you have to "shock the muscle". By no means is this necessary, but rather only 2 to 4 exercises per muscle group is optimal. Furthermore, chasing the pump and half-repping is not ideal. Though a nice pump is awesome, only chasing it is not optimal to build muscle because it typically means you're not producing enough mechanical tension. In terms of range of motion, please take the muscle through its full ROM. In calisthenics, the rule is it doesn't count unless you lock out and I believe this should apply for all modalities of training. Finally, focus on your form. Don't neglect it in favour of more weight. Quality of your reps matters way more than the weight in the bar especially in terms of muscular activation force production. Many people give absolute shit advice on Instagram about health and fitness but you already know that. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ So I want you to always challenge people promoting questionable health and fitness advice. Just ask why. The real ones will either back it up with solid insight and evidence or honestly admit they're venturing beyond their current expertise. If they made a mistake, forgive them and move on.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ And for everyone creating health and fitness content, if you're going to quote researched evidence, try to reference relevant papers and the hard numbers to prove your point. If you're stating a pure belief or something you've heard from others (which are totally fine), be absolutely clear you're doing that. Say things like "I believe in this because..." or "from my experience" etc. Just be obvious with it so people can weigh out their own benefit/risk ratio.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ But yeah It's everyone's responsibility to be well informed when creating and consuming content regarding health and fitness. If I want/need to improve my life then I need to stop doing what I know to be wrong. So what is wrong in your life? Ask yourself. Spend some time thinking about it. It could be the tiniest thing that could make a difference to your universe. . . I read this sentence for the first time just a matter of weeks ago and it hit me like a thunderbolt. I couldn’t stop reading it and the proceeding pages. I started making changes right then and there. On that very fucking spot. I took control of my emotions. In fact, I just took back control. Granted, there’s going to be times when my brain fights back and says “wait a minute, I wanna go this way. I wanna panic. I wanna feel fear”. But now I’m in control. I take my emotions and my feelings down a completely different route. Our brains are so fucking powerful. We get caught up with how our physical appearances look way too much, to the detriment of our mental health. We sometimes forget that the most powerful tool in the entire world is in our head. “Start to stop doing what you know to be wrong”. That sentence has changed my life. And right now, I’m in the best place I’ve been for a long time. If you want changes, no matter how small, then you can do it.
